Man and Pegasus, Carl Milles 1949 sculpture

Unified de-installed this large Pegasus sculpture which stood in front of the Bryan Towers. We used a 90-ton crane to remove the piece that weighed 3,500 lbs and was mounted atop a 13’ granite pedestal. With such a large reach, we had to use an extra large crane to remove the piece from its location. Two riggers conducted the rigging from the top of specially erected scaffolding. The sculpture itself was fractured at the feet, so our rigging had to be perfect in order to align precisely. Which, of course, it did. We then transported the sculpture to the Crow Holdings warehouse on a flatbed trailer to accommodate low bridges, then unloaded the piece using a 6,000-pound-reach forklift. Read more:
